Michael Earl Olson, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, July 2, 2024

Michael “Mike” Earl Olson, 70, of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin died July 2, 2024 unexpectedly at his home. He was born June 16, 1954 in LaSalle, Illinois, the son of Dennis Olson and Wanda Kohnert.

Michael graduated from Fayette High School in 1972. Michael joined the Navy on May 21, 1972 right out of high school. During his time in the Navy, he enjoyed being in Japan and learning martial arts. He was honorably discharged on April 24, 1978. After his time in the Navy, Michael worked with Frito Lay for over 30 years. After which he changed careers and started working with Cabela’s for 15 years. Michael retired from Cabela’s to enjoy his free time.

On September 15, 2001 Michael and Mary Ellen were united in marriage.

Michael enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His passions were taking the boat out on the river with his wife Mary Ellen, bird watching, and checking the river. He had recently started his own garden and loved spending time outside on his deck. Michael could be found watching the Milwaukee Brewers during the summer and the Cleveland Browns during the fall. Michael was also proud to be a part of the Shiners for 2 years. During his time living in Wadena, he became the Mayor. Anyone he met during this time can remember him saying, “Hi, Mike Olson, Mayor of Wadena. Damn, pleased to meet ya!”

Survivors include beloved wife Mary Ellen Olson of Prairie du Chien. Son Mike Jr. (Tricia) Olson of Gilbertvile, daughter Jenn (Chris) Palmersheim of Edgewood. Step-sons Ryan (Brandi) Loomis of Sumner, Jacob (Brittany) Loomis of Cedar Rapids, and Derek Loomis of Waterloo. Grandchildren Dakota Clausman, Patrick (Emily) Palmersheim, Dylan Palmersheim, Natalie Palmersheim, Dalton (Karlie Wagner) Ray, Joseph Loomis, and Paisley Loomis. Great Grandchildren Annabelle, Maverick and Jameson Palmersheim, and Hydson Ray. His dad Dennis Olson of Fayette. Siblings Ronald Baldwin of Nashville, TN, Dennis Olson of Cedar Rapids, and Jeffery Olson of Prairie du Chien, WI. Sister-in-law Julie (Scott) Torkelson of Elkport.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother Wanda Kohnert, his aunts Catherine Walters and Shirley Dunn. Mother and Father-in-law Marjorie and Jerome Brehme, brother-in-laws Kurt Brehme, Steve Brehme, and Louis Brehme.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 12:00 to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at The Red Barn in La Riviere Park, 62036 Vineyard Road, Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin 53821
