Rudolf Moritz, 86 of West Union, Iowa passed away Monday, September 16, 2024 at WinnMed in Decorah, Iowa. He was born February 5, 1938 to Rudolf H. Moritz Sr. and Maxine (Klendworth) Moritz in Streator, Illinois. Rudolf was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in rural Benson, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Benson High School in Benson, Illinois.
Rudy was a lifelong farmer, farming in Stanley, Iowa from 1962 to 1970 and farming in Hawkeye, Iowa from 1970 to 2007. On January 10, 1981, Rudy was united in marriage with Carolyn Rae Lindner at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawkeye, Iowa. He drove area transit bus for Northeast Iowa Community Action Corporation from 2007 to 2013 and sold seed corn for Custom Farm Seed as a Regional Manager. Rudy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, and fishing with his family and friends in Northern Minnesota and the Mississippi River. In the recent years, Rudy has needed dialysis and through that experience he gained additional friends with his outgoing personality and positive disposition.
Surviving Rudy are his wife, Carolyn Moritz of West Union, Iowa; children, Alan (Colleen) Moritz of Hampton, Iowa, Valerie (fiancé, Lori Brady) Moritz of Annapolis, Maryland and Scot (Mendy) Moritz of Maxwell, Iowa; grandchildren, Jason (Rachel) Moritz of Hastings, Minnesota, Nicole Moritz of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Katie (fiancé Leo Bormann) Moritz of Des Moines, Iowa, Eleanor Hall of San Francisco, California, Harrison Cook of Omaha, Nebraska, Charles Hall of Golfito, Costa Rica and Meg Cook of Maxwell, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Luke and Logan Moritz of Hastings, Minnesota; step-children, Michael (Linda) Lindner of Dunkerton, Iowa; step-grandchildren, Debra Lindner and Shannon Vallaa; and his sister, Myrna Guion of Texas.
Rudolf was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Sue Moritz; and his parents, Rudolf H. Moritz Sr. and Maxine Moritz.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before services at the church on Friday.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Friday, September 20, 2024 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev. Isaiah Stansbery as the officiant.
A private family burial will be at Windsor Township Cemetery, rural Hawkeye, Iowa.
