Neal William Perry, 93 of McGregor, Iowa passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 11, 2025. Neal was born in Waterloo, Iowa 12/19/1931 to parents Helen and Marcus Perry. He grew up in Waterloo and participated in baseball, track and football, graduating from East High in 1950. His fondest childhood memories were visiting his grandparents Neubauer at their farm and great grandparents in Amana Colonies. Dad was very proud of his heritage. He was an avid hunter and spent many days hunting and fishing with his dad. After graduation he met the love of his life Anne Hamilton.
Neal joined the U.S.A.F. 1951-1954, serving in the cold of the Aleutian Islands on Adak Island during the Korean War.
Neal and Anne were married at Peace United Church, Elkader, IA on June 14, 1953. He graduated from UNI, B.A. Their children Marcus, Paul and Elizabeth were a joy and sense of pride in their lives. Dad always went out of his way to become friends with his children’s friends; a tradition that lives on through us.
Neal became a Free Mason in 1957 and became Master of El Kahir, Elkader Lodge #72, Scottish Rite 1968 advancing to President of NE Iowa Shrine Club. Mom and dad spent many years of their retirement weekends as part of NE IA Motor Shrine Clowns, where he was known as “Zip”. They met countess friends thru these organizations. Dad also had a special place in his heart for the Shrine Hospital in MN. He took many families in need to and from the hospital. Mom and dad spent many happy weekends joining with the Jesters and dancing up a storm on the floor. Dad was actively involved in his communities. He was School Board President in Neenah, WI, served on the Board of Directors for the Elkader Opera House and Elkader Country Club. He played golf in Men’s league into his 80’s.
Dad was one of the “Good Guys” he loved his country, family and friends with all his heart. Neal was an avid and talented woodworker, winemaker, gardener and nature lover; interests he happily shared with others.
He is survived by his children; Marcus, son Matthew, Napa, CA, Paul (Gail) children; Alison (Pete) Nielsen, Waunakee, Wi, great grandchildren Raegan and Parker. Mitchell (Sarah) Middleton, WI and daughter Beth (Mark Cesario) children; Mark B. (Melissa), Anne (Jon Mohoney) all of Sheboygan, WI. Dad was overjoyed to know that they both are expecting.
A Masonic Rites funeral is planned for a later date.
