Janice Louise Stuckey, 91 of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin passed away Friday, March 28, 2025. Janice Louise Stuckey, born September 23, 1933, in Benton, WI passed away at the Great River Care Center on March 28, 2025 surrounded by close family after 91 years on this earth.
Janice met Harlen through the local paper as pen pals in 1953 when the cost of a stamp was only 3 cents. He courted her in his Nash car or his Piper Vagabond airplane. They often went on picnics with friends or roller skating. She would entertain others playing her accordion, and later in life she called people on the phone to play them Happy Birthday on the organ. After marrying in 1954, they ran the Prairie du Chien Airport and later became partners in the Stuckey farm raising beef, crops, produce and poultry. Together they raised 4 children and spent their later years traveling the country in their motor home, especially during the Wisconsin winter months.
She was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and enjoyed listening to church services on the radio. Janice spent her life as a homemaker, as well as supporting the farming business. She served as Bridgeport Ambassadors 4-H leader for 27 years. She started selling produce in 1964 and continued to grow the labor-intensive produce business for years to come. One of her passions was researching the genealogy of the family lineage. Another was photography. During her time as a mother, she taught all of her children the value of hard work. She was blessed to have family nearby taking over the century farm and caring for her as she aged. This allowed her to stay in her home until the last months of her life.
Janice is survived by her four children, Harvey of Prairie du Chien, WI, David of Prairie du Chien, WI, Linda Cliff (Bernard) of Bloomington, WI, and Sandra Welzenbach (Craig) of Fair Oaks Ranch, TX. Her one sister; Judy Pearce of Platteville, WI. Her memory lives on with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and even some great- great grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews.
Janice was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, Harlen Stuckey; her parents Ervin and Catherine Heim; two brothers Robert and Richard; one beloved daughter-in-law, Mary Stuckey; one grandson, Heath Stuckey; one great grandchild, Lillian Ferrell.
