Mervil Eugene Mabb, 81, of Postville, Iowa died Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He was born February 24, 1943 to Lyle and Mildred (Woodson) in Clermont, Iowa. Mervil graduated from Valley High School, Elgin, Iowa in 1961. He served in the United States Army stateside, as a mechanic for four years.
Mervil was united in marriage with Lavonne Trudo on August 6, 1965 at the Norway Lutheran Church. Together they raised six children and owned and operated Mabb’s Bar in Postville for ten years. He also worked at John Deere for five years, HyGrade until they closed in 1979, for Delbert Suckow and the Postville Electric Motor Shop. Mervil enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting.
Mervil is survived by his children, Mark (Jacquie) Landt of Colorado, Kim (Ann) Landt of Colorado, Joni Wisehart of Elgin, Julie (Looch) Lerch of Clermont and Lisa Scarff of McGregor; special friend, Sheri Hubbard of McGregor and seven grandchildren.
Mervill was preceded in death by his wife, Lavonne; his parents; his son, David Landt; a grandson, Christopher Scarff and his siblings, Joyce Ramaker, Gail Herman, Joann Dryer and Gene Mabb.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf, Iowa with Rev. Marshall Hahn as the officiant.
Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
