Eleanor Frances Krieg, Elkader, Iowa, August 3, 2025

Eleanor Frances Krieg, 86 of Elkader, Iowa passed away Sunday, August 3, 2025, at the Elkader Carn Center. Eleanor Frances Reavis was born September 13, 1938, to Floyd (Shorty) and Ernestine (Schoien) Reavis at the big brick house in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at the Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader, where she was a lifelong member. Eleanor graduated from Elkader High School with the class of 1956. She continued her education at the Iowa Teachers College and Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, earning her Master’s degree in Elementary Education.

0n June 6, 1959, Eleanor was united in marriage to Neal Krieg at the Elgin Lutheran Church.  One daughter was born to this union.  Eleanor started teaching in the fall of 1958 and taught second grade at the Valley Community School District for 38 years.  In her words second grade was the best grade.  After retiring, Eleanor helped Neal on the Schoien Family farm, and they traveled to Arizona, Montana and Branson Missouri.  Eleanor played the organ at the Highland Church longer than anyone can remember.  She would also go up to the church early in the morning to turn on the heat and check the “church hill” in the winter to see if they could have church that Sunday.  Eleanor enjoyed Sunday afternoon drives and going dancing with her husband, Neal.  She loved having her grandsons visit in the summer.  She also enjoyed feeding the birds and taking care of her cats.  Eleanor was a do-it-yourselfer with a very strong will, but then she came from a long line of strong-willed women.

Surviving Eleanor are her daughter, Sue Ellen (Jeff) Meyer of St. Olaf, Iowa; grandchildren, Andrew (Heidi) Meyer of Monona, Iowa and Benjamin (Cari) Meyer of Cumming, Iowa; great-grandchildren, Emma, Joseph, Landyn and Macklyn; and her nephews, Jason Reavis, Dan (Kerry) Reavis and Ryan Reavis.

Preceding Eleanor in death was her husband, Neal; parents Floyd and Ernestine Reavis; brother, Frank Reavis; and aunts, Arlene and Corinne Schoien.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am with a visitation from 9:00 am until the time of service on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at the Highland Lutheran Church, rural Elkader, Iowa with Rev. Adam Starrett as the Officiant.
