Carol Jean Florek, 74, of Monona, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born on August 15, 1951, to David and Margaret (Dahlin) Kloskowski in St. Cloud, Minnesota. She was first married to George Florek, though that marriage later ended in divorce. On April 29, 2018, Carol was united in marriage to Dennis Kovarik.
Throughout her life, Carol dedicated herself to caring for others. She worked as a nurse’s aide in nursing homes in Cresco and Postville, Iowa, as well as at the Lori Knapp Homes in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, painting angels, doing crossword puzzles, and camping. Above all else, Carol’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.
Carol is survived by her husband, Dennis Kovarik of Monona, Iowa; her children, Tammy (Steve) Rossberg of Richmond, Minnesota, Diane Hill of Big Lake, Minnesota, Angela Hagen of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Matthew (RaeAnna) Florek of Oelwein, Iowa, and Brittany Kovarik of Postville, Iowa; her grandchildren, Autumn (Jordan) Mercer, Emily Hagen, Brianna Hagen, Sabastion Florek, Serenity Florek, Jacob Florek, McKenna Florek, Leigha Florek, Grant Rossberg, Anthony Rossberg, Cara Dasch, and Devon Angell; and great-grandchildren, Mya Rose, Rayne, Nora, Adaline and Alice.
She is also survived by her siblings, Marvin (Cindy) Kloskowski, Roxanne (Larry) Hauber, and Anthony (Armand) Guevremont; along with many beloved nieces and nephews: Kerry, Chad, Rachel, Keith, Christopher, John, Bridgett, Gary, Antonio, Teko, Tyrone, Haley, and Sadie.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, David and Margaret Kloskowski, and her brother, David Stifel.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 pm with a Visitation from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and Prayer Service at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 24, 2026 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona, Iowa with Rev. Donald Hertges as the officiant.
