Scott Allen Schara, 52, of West Union passed away at his home on Friday, January 30, 2026. Scott was the son of Robert and Sheryl (Grundmeyer) Schara. He was born February 16, 1973 in Postville, Iowa.
Scott attended Postville Schools before embarking on his career as a truck driver, exploring all 48 continental United States with his faithful English Setter, Pixie. He kept his roots in Iowa, but raised a glass with many he touched on his life’s journey. He was a collector of stories, like his dad, and his story telling was riddled with his iconic laughter. If even in his own mind, Scott was an avid sportsman to the amusement of his older brother, Steven. He was a mighty fisherman, the kind legends (and imaginations) are full of. His boast was his ability to catch fish in 3 casts. Scott cherished the occasions to teach his son, Lennon, about fishing and hunting. He was a lover of the outdoors, and evermore enthusiastic for a wild adventure. He was patriotic in his ideals. He lived life on his own terms and was authentically himself, an achievement many people strive to acquire. If you had the fortune to see through the layers of life’s burdens, you were enriched by his heart of gold, his greatest treasure.
Scott is survived by his mother, Sheryl (Joe) Hammel of Frankville; his brother, Steve (fiancée, Michele) Schara of Ham Lake, MN; four sisters, Stephanie (Robert) Giles of Nashville, TN; Sara (Dion) Miller of Charlotte, NC; and Meagan (Willie) Chalmers of Lonsdale, MN; Nikki Burk of LaCrosse, WI; nieces and nephews, Corey (Diane) Giles, Courtney (Mike) Fowler, Codey (Sari) Giles, Meredith Avery McAnulty, and Samantha Chalmers; aunts, Lila Dvorsky of Marion, IA, Jane (Robert) Groth of Garber, IA; Mary (Sharm) Samuelson of Inman, SC, and Julie Grundmeyer of Des Moines, IA; Julie (Ray) Grundmeyer Sandhagen of Edgewood, IA; Mary Orth of Cresco, IA; De Schara of Hastings, MN; and uncles, Richard (Kathleen) Schara of Fergus Falls, MN; Ron (Denise) Schara of Minneapolis, MN; Roger (Kim) Schara of Rapid City, SD; and his beloved best friend, Pixie. He is survived by many cousins and friends.
Scott was preceded in death by his son, Lennon Schara in 2018; his father, Robert Schara; his step-mother, Marie Hoff; and his uncle, Dale Grundmeyer.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
