Duane Ralph Meyer was born June 5, 1945 to William P. and Charlotte M. (Hanson) Meyer in West Union, Iowa. He was baptized on June 24, 1945 and confirmed on April 10, 1960. He completed his education through the 8th Grade.
Duane helped on the family farm near Eldorado during his early years. He later worked for Traeger’s Jack and Jill in West Union, Country Kitchen in Decorah and Calmar Foods. Duane lived in Decorah during his later years and was part of Opportunity Homes and Spectrum Industries. In 2023, he became a resident of Wellington Place where he passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026 at 80 years of age.
Duane was a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and always considered Eldorado “home”. He had fond memories of mowing lawns and helping his neighbors with snow removal.
Duane enjoyed going to auctions, car races, parades, and attending Mabel Steam Engine Days. He loved polka music, especially the Jim Busta Band when Mollie B performed with them. His favorite song was “Waltz of the Angels”.
Duane is survived by his sister, Marlys (Kerwin) Anderson of West Union, a sister-in-law Kathy Meyer of Ossian and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Charlotte Meyer, brothers Kenneth, Herbert and Conley, as well as sisters-in-law Eileen and Vickie and a nephew Steven Meyer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Peter Lutheran Church of Eldorado or the Activity Department of Wellington Place in Decorah.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm with a Visitation from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, April 13, 2026 at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, Iowa with Rev. Terry Landsgaard as the officiant.
Interment will follow at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Eldorado, Iowa.
