Kathryn Fern Weidemann, West Union, Iowa, April 27, 2026

Kathryn Fern Weidemann, 89 of West Union, Iowa passed away Monday, April 27, 2026 at Gundersen Palmer Hospital in West Union, Iowa. She was baptized, confirmed and was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church. Kathryn was born in West Union, Iowa to Arthur and Agnes Erickson on August 13, 1936.

During her high school years, Kathryn worked at Humphreys Dairy, Andersons 5 and 10 cent store and Independence produce for her parents. She enjoyed those jobs and they kept her very busy. Kathryn was in many clubs in school and graduated from West Union High School as President of her Senior Class in 1954.

On June 6, 1954, Kathryn was united in marriage with Willis C. Weidemann. Three children were born to this union, Terry, Tammy and Tracy. As her children grew and were in School, Kathryn decided she would like to work outside the home and was asked to go work at Farmers Saving Bank. She managed the Step Ahead Club and served as Vice President of Operations for many years. Kathryn retired after thirty-three years. Upon retirement, she helped at church and worked with folks at the Fayette County Historical Center. She enjoyed working with the Festival of Lights, which she helped start at the Rec Center in West Union. These past winter months Kathryn helped wrapped and store the forest lights, so they were ready for next year. She enjoyed the lights so much and always wanted to help, even with her limited ability.

Kathryn is survived by her husband, Willis “Wille” Weidemann; son, Terry (Peggy Shea) Weidemann; daughters, Tammy and Tracy (Mark Baumler); her grandchildren, Maggie and Trevor Weidemann, Laura Weidemann and Joey Shea.

Preceding Kathryn in death were her parents, Arthur and Agnes Erickson; brothers, Dick (Carol) Erickson and Adrian Erickson; one sister, Dolly Bachtell; and her niece, Candy Bachtell.

The family wishes to thank Janelle Mclree, Melissa Thompson and the entire Emplify hospital and hospice staff for their care the past few weeks. These people are amazing and we couldn’t have asked for better care.
