Dennis Arthur Holthaus, 72 of Ossian, Iowa passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at his home. Dennis was born October 3, 1953 to Cletus and Lucille (Thuente) Holthaus. He graduated high school from South Winneshiek in Calmar, Iowa with the class of 1971.
On March 16, 1974, Dennis was united in marriage with Marilyn Brincks at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, Iowa. Dennis was a man with strong foundations and was never one to say no to a friend in need, especially if it meant something was being built. For 49 years Dennis dedicated his work to Wicks Construction with countless projects in the area completed under his watchful eye. When not at work you could find him sitting around the table with friends and family playing a few hands of cards enjoying a glass of chocolate milk. He spent many summer nights fishing with his grandsons. Dennis had many hobbies including hunting deer and turtles, wood working and taking vacation trips with family.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Marilyn Holthaus of Ossian, Iowa; children, Jackie (Charles) Kies of La Motte, Iowa and Michael Holthaus of Waukon, Iowa; grandchildren, James Kies (Savanna Gratny) of Scotch Grove, Iowa and Kevin Kies (Sophia Kruse) of La Motte, Iowa; and his siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dennis in death was his parents, Cletus and Lucille Holthaus; two infant children; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clarence and Marie Brincks; God parents, Art Holthaus and Anita “Niddy” Tieskotter.
A Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a Rosary at 3:15 pm and a Prayer Service at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home in Ossian, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass time at the church on Thursday.
Memorial Mass will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa with Rev Henry Huber as the Celebrant.
Inurnment will follow in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian, Iowa.
