Gerald Kremer, 97 of Postville, Iowa entered his eternal rest on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. The eldest of twelve children, Gerald Jerome Kremer, son of Peter Kremer and Marcella Bergfeld Kremer was born on January 3, 1929, in Coggon, Iowa. Gerald attended Lamont Community Schools in Lamont, Iowa until starting work as a hired man in the Lamont area. A Korean war veteran, Gerald was drafted into the United States Army during the war and served his country from 1951 -1953. While serving, Gerald was commissioned as part of the U.S. Army Signal Corp division and was an integral in laying communication cables across Korea. His platoon laid the cable into Panmunjom for the Korean Armistice Agreement which eventually ended the hostilities and the Korean War on July 27, 1953.
Gerald was honorably discharged and returned to Winthrop, Iowa where he tended farmland and raised livestock before purchasing farmland in Postville, Iowa and making his home. Gerald loved the land and worked hard to tend his crops and his animals for many years.
Gerald was highly active in Saint Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa, taking his faith and service seriously. He enjoyed attending auctions, visiting his neighbors and was always there to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need.
Gerald was a caring, soft-spoken man. He will be missed by his family and community but will live on in our memories and prayers.
Gerald is survived by six siblings. Dorrence Kremer of Oran, Darlene Stottman of Des Moines, Laura Ann Fry (Ken) of Cedar Rapids, Patricia Holst (Gary) of Elkader, Laurence Kremer (Karen) of Lamont, and Charlene Jenks (Charles) of Aurora. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Merlin Kremer, Lorus Kremer and Dennis Kremer and two sisters: Verna Mae Koch and Mary Schweitzer.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 am with a visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Postville, Iowa with Rev. Philip Agyei as the celebrant.
