John Francis Durnan Jr., 54 of Elgin, Iowa passed away Friday, July 24, 2026 at Gunderson Lutheran in La Crosse, Wisconsin. John was born July 2, 1972 to John Francis Sr. and Mary Jacquelyn (Stinchcomb) Durnan in Thomaston, Georgia. He graduated from R.E. Lee High School with the Class of 1991 with a perfect school attendance.
John’s favorite times were spent outdoors, kayaking, tubing and hunting. He also enjoyed watching Nascar and the 49ers, singing and picking on his grandkids.
Surviving John are his children, Kevin (Paige) Durnan of Waukon, Iowa, Doug (Tami) Schupbach of Illinois and Danielle (Paul) Burgin of Mason City, Iowa; parents, John Sr. and Mary Durnan; grandchildren, Stella, Arlo, Jonathan, Avery, Aspen, Brielle and Vairah; siblings, Matthew Durnan and Amanda (Nick) Corlett; nieces and nephews, Magan, Chandler and Olivia; bonus kids, Casey, Kayla and Stephanie; and his beloved dog, Shelby.
Preceding John in death were his grandparents, Jackie and Curtis Stinchcomb and Leo and Grace Durnan; many aunts, uncles and extended family.
A Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home in Clermont, Iowa.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
