William Allan “Bill” Farmer passed away on July 14, 2026, at Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
Bill was born to William F. Farmer and Dorothy (Theel) Farmer and was raised in the Catholic faith. Throughout his life, he carried the values of hard work, loyalty, and service to others.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He deeply respected all who served in the military and was known for recognizing fellow veterans with a firm, memorable handshake and a heartfelt thank you for their service.
In the late 1960s, Bill began his career as a bricklayer with SMI in Strawberry Point and became a member of the International Union of Bricklayers. He dedicated more than forty years to the masonry trade, earning the respect of coworkers through his strong work ethic, craftsmanship, and commitment to excellence before retiring in the early 2000s.
He treasured his family and enjoyed sharing his wisdom, guidance, and stories with his children and grandchildren.
Bill was the proud father of four children: Mashell Wilkerson, Lisa (Clint) Moerbe, Travis (Sarah) Farmer, and Troy Farmer. He is survived by his grandchildren, Christopher Wilkerson, Sarah (Derek) Brayton, Tate (ReAnne) Moerbe, Brett Farmer, Goldie Farmer, Chanler Farmer, Chazzer Farmer, Hazi Farmer,Chelsi (Caleb) Moore, Savannah Farmer, Denton Farmer and Kyndall (Jake) Carruth; great-grandchildren, Brody, Boden, Rayland, Wrenley, Layton, Cyrus, Lyla, Addison, and Brooklyn.
Bill had a personality that could fill a room. One of his greatest passions was keeping his children busy, often convincing them that completing his chores was their own idea. His sense of humor, determination, and ability to take charge will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Bill’s legacy of service, hard work, and devotion to family will live on in the many lives he touched.
A private graveside service with military honors will be held at a later date.
