Norma Jean Asleson, 80, of Monona, Iowa passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. She was born August 7, 1946 to Donald Sr. and Anna Catherine (Lechnir) Montgomery in Monona. She graduated from MFL High School with the Class of 1964.
On November 19, 1966, Norma was united in marriage with Richard Asleson at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Monona. One son was born to this union. Norma worked a variety of jobs throughout her life including McGregor Electronics, Monona Wire, Kwik Star, Farmers Co-op in Postville and also did in-home daycare.
Norma enjoyed shopping, reading, and listening to rock and roll music. “If it’s too loud, you’re too old.” She also enjoyed collecting thousands of pieces of jewelry. Her greatest joy was being a grandma.
Surviving Norma are her husband, Richard Asleson of Monona, Iowa; son, Richard (Nikki) Asleson of Wauzeka, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Zachary Asleson and Molly (Nathan) Withey; two great-grandsons, Bennett and Wesley; brother, Jim Montgomery; brother-in-law, Fritz Meyer; and many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Sr. and Anna Montgomery; and her siblings, Shirley Meyer, Marilyn (Clarence) Thompson, Donald Jr. (Alice) Montgomery and Tom Montgomery.
Per Norma’s request, there will be no services held.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa is assisting the family with arrangements.
