Leo Anthony Garin, Lansing, Iowa, January 13, 2021

Leo Anthony Garin, 90, of Lansing, Iowa died Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa, Leo was born July 5, 1930 to Cyril and Viola (Guider) Garin in Harpers Ferry, Iowa. He attended Immaculate Conception Catholic High School and graduated in 1948. Leo continued his education by attending Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa.

On February 15, 1950, Leo was united in marriage with Mary Lou Troendle. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on February 15, 2020. Together they bought farms on Whalen Hill Road in 1953. In 1965, the barn burnt down, so Leo got a side job at Trane in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He worked at Trane for a year and then went to school in Calmer to be a Carpenter, while still farming. In 1985 Leo started working at Kerndt Brothers Savings Bank, doing maintenance work until his retirement.

Leo enjoyed sports and was a pitcher for slow pitch softball teams. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota Twins, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. Leo enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing cards with, Mary Kernan, Essie Welsh, Bernadette Becker, Amber Magnusson and Winnie Ferring. He liked spending time with Mary Lou and family and friends, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Leo is survived by his wife, Mary Lou “Mushy” Garin; six children, Bob (Lori) Garin of Urbana, Iowa, Dick (Shally) Garin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ray (Aggie) Garin of Lansing, Iowa, Denny (Lois) Garin of Lansing-Guttenberg, Iowa, Janelle (David) Kazimour of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Cheryl Garin of Lansing, Iowa; brother, Jerry (Kathy) Garin of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews

Preceding Leo in death were his parents, Cyril and Viola Garin; brother, Keith (Patty) Garn; his sister, Kathleen Troendle; one grandchild, Parker Garin, our little angel.

A Private Graveside Service will be held in Gethsamene Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the officiant.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa.
