Larry Dean Nading, Elgin, Iowa, June 22, 2022

Larry Dean Nading, 67, of Elgin, Iowa died Wednesday, June 22, 2022. Larry was born July 18, 1954 to Wilbur and Doris (Schmidtke) Nading in Oelwein, Iowa.  He graduated from Oelwein High School and completed paramedic training at Hawkeye Community College. Larry proudly joined and served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Elgin American Legion.

Larry was united in marriage with Carole Fenner on November 27, 1976 at the Elgin Lutheran Church. Throughout the years, Larry worked as a Paramedic, served as a Fire Fighter, and retired with the rank of Lieutenant for Waterloo Fire Rescue. He served his community on the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department for 31 years. He enjoyed the struggle of being a life-long Minnesota Vikings fan, riding thousands of miles on his Harley, collecting meaningful tattoos, and the thrill and disappointment of deer and mushroom hunting.

Surviving Larry are his wife, Carole Nading of Elgin, Iowa; his children, Scott (Maryna) Nading of Decorah, Iowa and Mackenzie Nading (Jonny Swanson) of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Nolan and Charlotte; his siblings, Terry (Judy) Nading of Oelwein, Iowa and Cindy (Gary) Butikofer of Elgin, Iowa; and his constant canine companion, Savannah.

Larry was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicki Jo; his parents, Wilbur and Doris; and his beloved dogs, Angel and Liberty.

A Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Elgin, Iowa.

There will be a Private Family Funeral held with Pastor Rusty Phillips as the officiant.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House charities.
