Elmer L. Schuety, 85, of rural St. Olaf, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2022, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids following a short illness. He was born on February 26, 1937, to Emil and Hilda (Lahrs) Schuety on the family farm near St. Olaf, Iowa.
Elmer attended country school and went on to serve in the United States Army from 1960 to 1962. He married Sandra Ihde on November 30, 1968, at Norway Lutheran Church near St. Olaf, and they resided on a farm nearby. Elmer drove fuel truck for many years both for St. Olaf Coop and Elkader Coop while also farming on the side. He loved country living and stayed active until his death. Elmer also loved a good card game, dancing, and socializing. Elmer was a long-time member of Norway Lutheran Church, serving on the council as well as the cemetery board.
Survivors include brothers-in-law Kevin Ihde of rural Farmersburg and Brian Ihde of Hamilton, MT; sisters-in-law Pam Glaser and Kim Ihde, both of Dubuque; eighteen nieces and nephews, and a special friend, Pat Vaske.
Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra, in 2016; son, Jeff, at birth; brothers, William Schuety and Ron Schuety; sisters, Ivanelle Glawe and Margie Larson; sisters-in-law Ardis and Jeanette Schuety; and brothers-in-law, Lloyd Glawe, Henry Larson Jr., and Larry Ihde.
Visitation: 5 to 7 PM on Monday, September 26, 2022, at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf and one hour before the service on Tuesday at the church.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday September 27, 2022, at Norway Lutheran Church rural St. Olaf with Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating.
Interment with Military Rites will follow at Norway Lutheran Cemetery.
