Josephine “Jo” Jeanette Schlitter, Monona, Iowa, April 3, 2025

Josephine “Jo” Jeanette Schlitter, age 85, of Monona, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2025, at WinnMed in Decorah, Iowa.

Josephine Jeanette was born on January 21, 1940, to Yvo and Vivian (Schroeder) Scheffert. She graduated from Luana High School with the Class of 1958.

On June 14, 1958, Jo was united in marriage with Arno Schlitter at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa. Together they raised five children.

Jo loved to play Euchre and proudly ran the Euchre Club at the Monona Community Center. She also enjoyed playing bingo, reading, going out to eat, and attending church every Sunday. Jo was a devoted mother, and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Surviving Jo are her children: Lonnie (Roberta) Schlitter of Fayette, Iowa; Danny Schlitter of Hazelton, Iowa; Darla (Mike) Eilers of McGregor, Iowa; Darryl (Karren) Schlitter of Monona, Iowa; and Rodney (Kris Lewis) Schlitter of Guttenberg, Iowa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Also left to cherish her memory are her siblings: Pat Lumbus, Berdette (Marol) Scheffert, and David (Sherri) Scheffert; her sister-in-law, Margaret Scheffert; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Ruth (Earl) Jones and Jim Schlitter.

Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Yvo and Vivian Scheffert; her husband, Arno Schlitter, on February 6, 2010; and several siblings and in-laws.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for donation of their choice.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am with a visitation from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Friday, April 11, 2025 at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa with Rev. Jeremy Wolfe as the officiant.

Interment will follow at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Luana, Iowa.

Celebration of Life Luncheon will follow funeral service at the Luana Savings Bank basement.
