Joy Lynnette Meyer-David passed away October 11, 2025, at her home in Boise, Idaho. Joy was born December 29, 1959, to Jerome L. and JoAnn V. (Johnson) Meyer in Decorah, IA. She grew up in Luana, IA and attended MFL CSD, where she graduated in 1978. Her education continued at Luther College in Decorah IA, where she graduated with a BA in Education.
Joy married Charles L. David, on May 31, 1986, at Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, Decorah, IA. They were married for 29 years before his passing in 2015.
Joy had an incredible resume of occupations; between program directors, quilt store owner/operator and numerous teaching positions across the country. Joy loved making a difference and serving others and kept in touch with many of the people she met, worked with or taught over the years.
Joy was a creative person and had many hobbies and interests. She enjoyed cooking, reading, camping, scrapbooking, crocheting, sewing and quilting. She especially loved her Norwegian Heritage and was learning to read, write and speak Norwegian to someday visit Norway.
Above all, Joy’s faith was paramount in her life; she lived her discipleship daily and was very involved with Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Boise as well as maintaining a strong connection to her childhood church, St. John Lutheran, in Luana, IA
Joy is preceded in death by her husband Charlie, her parents Jerome and JoAnn, her father and mother in-law Virgil and Eunice David her paternal and maternal grandparents, and one nephew David Wnek.
Joy is survived by her beloved dog Ivy, her siblings Janelle (Jeff) Meyer Smith, Farmersburg, IA; James (Lisa) Meyer, McGregor, IA; Jeff (Carol) Meyer, Toledo, IA; and brother-in-law Kenny David, Froelich, IA. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews, Adam (Jennifer) Smith, Austin (Kelli) Peters-Smith, Aaron (Amy) Smith, Avrey (Hailey) Smith; Tristan Meyer, Anne (Ty) Luck, Richard Saddler, Sierra (Adam) Stevens, and Dakotah Meyer and six great nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
Memorial services will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran church, Boise ID on November 15, 2025, at 1:00pm and at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana IA on Saturday November 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm with an hour visitation before the service. Burial of ashes will be on November 23, 2025, at 1:00pm at Washington Prairie Lutheran, Decorah IA.
