LaVon Jean Barnes, 92, of Shreveport, Louisiana died on Tuesday, February, 21, 2017 at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Shreveport, Louisiana. LaVon Jean was born on May 17, 1924 in Postville, Iowa to Victor and Florence (Jensen) Casten. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. LaVon graduated from Postville High School.
LaVon was united in marriage with John W. Barnes Sr. To this union, two sons were born. She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana from Clinton, Iowa in 1962.Throughout her career, LaVon worked in sales at various companies including Dillard’s Department Store and Godiva Chocolate. She enjoyed decorating her home for all the holidays.
LaVon is survived by her husband, John W. Barnes; two sons, John William Barnes Jr. of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Dale Barnes of Shreveport, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Dale Jr. and Teresa of Portland Oregon and Jeannette; and great-grandson, Alexsander of Washington, DC.
LaVon was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Florence Casten; and one brother, Karl Casten.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.
Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
