Helen Martha Storbeck, 88, of Elkader, died Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born April 16, 1928, to George and Ernestine (Horns) Hetz. Helen completed the 8th grade in country school. She was confirmed on March 3, 1942, at the Lutheran Church in Clayton, Iowa. On April 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Raymond C. Storbeck at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, IA, by Pastor K. Landgrebe.
The couple farmed side by side, raising a family on a farm south of Elkader.
Following her marriage, Helen joined Peace United Church of Christ, where she was active in the ladies group and remained a lifelong member of the church. She was a member of the ladies Farm Bureau Group. She enjoyed gardening and being outside. Helen took flowers and many items to the open class at the Clayton County Fair. She loved to visit with all of the people, sharing stories and recipes.
She is survived by her three children, John (Lois) Storbeck of Elkader, Susan (Rick) Schulte of Dorchester, George (Sandi) Storbeck of Alburnett; son-in-law, Chuck Ingles of Garber; grandchildren, Jennifer Gundacker, Stacey Embretson, Reggie Schulte, Renee French, Robyn Quilling, Mike and Brian Ingles, Dominic, Theodore and Hannah Storbeck; 20 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, in 1973; daughter Mary Ingles in 2016, and grand-daughter, Pam Storbeck in 2002.
Funeral Service: 11:00 A.M. – Saturday, February 25, 20017, at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa with Rev. Jon Haack officiating.
Interment: East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa
Visitation: 9:30 A.M. until service time at the church on Saturday.
