LaVila Harnack, 86, of Postville, Iowa died Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Good Samaritan Society, Postville, Iowa. She was born July 1, 1931 to William and Ethel (Hummell) Berger in Wadena, Iowa and baptized on July 21, 1935. LaVila graduated from Volga City High School on May 19, 1949.
LaVila was united in marriage with Merlin Harnack on April 24, 1966 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Volga, Iowa. After getting married, she worked at the clothing store in Postville. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. LaVila helped hang wallpaper and assisted in the care of her nieces and nephews when they were born. She enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals and fishing at Harpers Ferry, Iowa. LaVila was a Chicago Cubs Baseball Fan.
LaVila is survived by many nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlin in 2005; parents, William and Ethel Berger; siblings, Marjorie Upton, Catherine Taylor, Howard Berger, Robert Berger, Lyle Berger, Ralph Berger; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the officiant.
There will be one hour visitation from 10:00 am to 11:00 am before services at the church on Saturday.
Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
