Norbert “Butch” Schulte, 90, of New Albin, Iowa died Monday, August 27, 2018 at Gundersen Health Systems in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Norbert was born on May 2, 1928 in Dorchester, Iowa, the son of John C. and Ella G. (Connor) Schulte. He attended rural country school in Dorchester. On June 28, 1951 he was united in marriage with Rita Kelly. To this union six children were born.
Norbert worked for the Allamakee County Highway Department. In his free time, he enjoyed watching sports, news and his favorite weekly show, Mollie B. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds, along with the neighborhood animals. Norbert liked tinkering and doodling and was a “Jack of all trades”. He took great pride in his family and especially loved their trips to the lake in northern Minnesota.
Norbert is survived by four children; Jim Schulte of La Crescent, Minnesota, Bill (Kelly) Schulte of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Kelly (Wayne) Galema of Marshalltown, Iowa and Jody Garin of Newhall, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Darrin (Katelyn) Schulte, Derrek Schulte, Jesse (Alyssa) Galema, Nathan (Elizabeth) Galema, Stacy Galema, Kory Schulte, Ryan Schulte, Kelsey Garin and Alyssa Garin; one great-grandson, Jaxson Galema and two additional great-grandchildren on the way; one brother, Lloyd (Ruth Ann) Schulte of Waukon, Iowa; one sister, Jeanette McCormick of Waukon, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Jean Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Mary Jo Kelly of Apple Valley, Minnesota; many nieces and nephews.
Norbert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Rita on December 9, 2013; one daughter, Mary Ellen Schulte; one son, Stanley Schulte; three brothers, Cletus, John and Greg Schulte; two sisters, Margaret Wiltgen and Angela Regan; one son-in-law Randy Garin.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Albin, Iowa.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, August 31, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Albin, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, New Albin, Iowa.
