Lorraine Schultz, Postville, Iowa, January 11, 2019

Lorraine Schultz, 89, of Postville, Iowa died Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Good Samaritan Home in Postville, Iowa. Lorraine Shirley Ann, the daughter of Octave Lloyd and Emma (Bjergum) Brown, was born November 18, 1929 in Caledonia, Minnesota. She was baptized at Black Hammer Lutheran Church in Minnesota. In the early years of her life, the family lived in the Canton/Mabel Minnesota area where her parents were involved in farming. Lorraine attended Newberg school near Mabel Minnesota at this time. On March 1st, 1944 the family moved to Postville where they established the Northern Iowa Nursery. She became a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and was confirmed there on March 25, 1945. Lorraine attended Postville School where she was very active and athletic, she was involved in tumbling, cheerleading, Girls Glee Club, marching band, baton twirling, Future Career Girls of America, letter club and she was PEP Club president. Her favorite sport was cheerleading because Cloy was on the football team. Lorraine graduated from Postville High School in 1947. Her senior class motto was “Sweetness and spice and all things nice.” She married her high school sweetheart Cloy W. Schultz Jr. on December 26, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. As a team they began a successful farming career on the “Old Schultz Farm” south of Postville. Lorraine was so proud to be a farm wife and loved being a Mom. She excelled at keeping everyone full and happy and healthy. She was truly the heart of the home. The oven was always full and the house smelled delicious and special. She was also an excellent seamstress, sewing for the family, making many of our clothes and accessories for the home. She loved decorating the house for the holidays, making the homecomings special for the family. At this time of year she definitely enjoyed sharing her Norwegian heritage. Lorraine also took special pride in her gardening and flower beds, adding some beauty to the farmstead in all seasons.

In addition to being a farm wife, mom and homemaker, Lorraine was very active in St. Paul Lutheran Church Ladies Aid and Women’s Circle. She was a Charter member of the Bob Creek Neighbors Club where she held numerous offices throughout the past 64 years. She was proud to help publish the cookbook, “What’s Cooking? Along Bob’s Creek”. Lorraine enjoyed playing in Pinochle, Euchre and 500 card clubs throughout the years. She was actively involved in 4-H serving as a leader for the Grand Meadow Larkettes, where she taught sewing, cooking and preservation. Lorraine was a Charter member of the Red Hat Chics founded in 2004. She loved all the “girl time” and day trips. Lorraine was also a regular at the Pit Stop Coffee bunch, starting each day with a smile and friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and friends.

Those left behind to cherish her memories are her daughters, Jacquelyn (Michael) Wilson of Rochester, Minnesota; and L. Annette (Drew) Deering of Postville, Iowa; her daughter-in-law, Sherry Schultz of Postville, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Jason and Joshua Hager; Marcus Mihm; Alex Wilson; Kristina Syhlman; Krista Nebendahl; Keyli Keifer; Katrina Moreland; Tasha Knutson and Koal Deering; twenty great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren. Lorraine has one sister, Sharon Kainauskas of Fairfield, Iowa; brother-in-laws Jack (Patricia) Schultz, Byron (Darlene) Schultz and sister-in-law Rochelle (Noel) Cook.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Cloy W. Schultz, Jr.; her daughter, Deborah L.A. Schultz-Hager; her son C. Blaine Schultz, her parents, Octave L. and Emma Bjergum Brown. Three sisters, Virginia Janett, Beverly Sander, and Janice Schultz. Brother-in-laws Grant Schultz and Robert Janett and Sister-in-law Carole Lindquist.

Visitation will be on Monday, January 14, 2019 from 4-7 pm at St. Paul Lutheran Fellowship Hall, Postville, Iowa and one hour before services at the church on Tuesday.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa with Rev. Lynn Noel as the Officiant.

Burial will follow at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
