Gary Dale Philpott, 69, of Monona, Iowa died Thursday, March 14, 2019 at Good Samaritan Society in Postville, Iowa. He was born August 21, 1949 to Howard and Carlota (Collins) Philpott at Franklin County Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. Gary graduated from Rockwell Swaledale Highschool in 1967, where he played center for the Rockwell Rebels and went to State for basketball in 1967. He furthered his education at the University of Northern Iowa and earned his BA Degree in Business.
Gary was united in marriage with Dianne Sturges on September 5, 1970 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell, Iowa. He worked for Dial Finance Company in Moline, Illinois and also as a Salesman at Miller Beauty Supply/ Peels Beauty Supply for thirty-nine years, where he received numerous awards including Salesman of the Year. Gary loved going on the many vacations with his family to Florida, Yellowstone, Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Ireland, Paris, France, cabin on Lake of the Woods and trips to see his three children who served in the United States Army. He also enjoyed fishing the Mississippi River and teaching his children to fish and water ski. Gary played on a dart league for many years and was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He attended two World Series Games for the Twins. He was a member of the Jaycees, Men’s Club of Monona and St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Gary is survived by his loving wife, Dianne Philpott of Monona, Iowa; children, Kristin (Shawn) Morrissey of Monona, Iowa, Michael (Misty) Philpott of Little Rock, Arkansas, Scott (Eliza) Philpott of Luana, Iowa and Brittani (Manuel) Da Silva of Toms River, New Jersey; grandchildren, Brayde Miller, Hunter Miller, Deklan Morrissey, Chase Strub and Hunter Strub; siblings, Maxine Hawke of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Roger Philpott of Atwood, Kansas; many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Carlota Philpott; mother and father-in-law, Mary and John Sturges; brother-in-law, Alan Hawke; niece, Annette Hawke; and nephews, Todd Hawke and Sam Sturges.
Visitation will be held from 2-6 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 18, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the Celebrant.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
