Evelyn Rose Petsche, Elkader, Iowa, July 14, 2026

Evelyn Rose Petsche, 67, of Elkader, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born February 8, 1959, in Wisconsin, to Elwyn and Irene (Schaefers) Petsche.

Evelyn graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1977. She worked at several places throughout her life, including Swiss Valley, Lands’ End and a local gas station.

She enjoyed cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, spending time in the sunshine, feeding the birds and cooking. More than anything, Evelyn treasured the friendships she built over the years. She especially loved playing cards and spending time with friends. She loved being an aunt and was always excited to hear about her nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her brothers, Albert Petsche, Leonard Petsche and Carl (Beth) Petsche; her sister, Julie (Jack) Hensley; her nephews, Alex (Shelby) Petsche, Ryan Petsche, Adam (Becca) Hensley and Ben Hensley; two grandnieces, Gracelynn and Jocelyn; and one grandnephew, Asher.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Elwyn and Irene (Schaefers) Petsche; and her sister-in-law, Jean (Freshwaters) Petsche, beloved wife of her brother, Albert.

Evelyn’s Family would like to send a special “Thank You” to the staff of the Elkader Care Center and St. Croix Hospice Team that helped  Evelyn this past year.

A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, July 24, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Elkader, Iowa, with Deacon Pat Malanaphy officiating.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader is assisting the family with arrangements.
