Paul Matthew Durnan, 74, of Clermont, Iowa, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, July 18, 2026.
Paul was born on June 11, 1952, in Oelwein, Iowa, to Leo and Grace (Stahr) Durnan. He grew up with a strong work ethic and deep appreciation for rural life. Paul dedicated 12 years of service to the City of Clermont and spent many years farming, a way of life he truly enjoyed.
A faithful member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Clermont, Paul found strength and community through his faith. In his free time, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, and participating in tractor rides. Paul also enjoyed spending time in the kitchen baking bread, homemade apple pies and canning food.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Grace Durnan; his brother, Tony Durnan; and his sisters, Mary Turner and Grace “Sue” Walker.
He is survived by his brothers, Charles Durnan of Casa Grande, Arizona, Joseph (Janis) Durnan of Alta Vista, Iowa, Michael Durnan of Arlington, Iowa, James (Kathy) Durnan of Thomaston, Georgia, Mark (Kate) Durnan of Elgin, Iowa, Luke (Katherine) Durnan of Walker, Iowa, John (Mary) Durnan of Thomaston, Georgia, Francis Durnan of Globe, Arizona, and Leo (Shirley) Durnan of Elgin, Iowa; his sisters, Regina (Terry) Ellerman of Quincy, Illinois, Lucy Durnan of Clermont, Iowa, Rebecca (Mark) Skretta of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, Martha (Steve)Slagle or Algona, Iowa, Veronica (Kenny) Boyer of Hawkeye, Iowa, and Marie (Ron) Lauer of West Union, Iowa; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Schutte-Grau Funeral Home in Clermont, Iowa. There will also be a one-hour visitation before Mass at the church on Monday.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 am on Monday, July 27, 2026 at St. Peter Catholic Church in Clermont, Iowa with Rev. Gabriel Anderson as the Celebrant.
Inurnment will be held at a later date.
