Leona Streif, West Union, Iowa, May 30, 2019

Leona Catherine Streif, 97, of West Union, Iowa died Thursday, May 30, 2019 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa.  She was born on February 1, 1922 at Dubuque, Iowa to Michael and Josephine (Phillips) Fah. Leona was baptized on March 12, 1922 at St. Catherine Church in Dubuque and confirmed on May 10, 1936 at St. Theresa in La Motte, Iowa. She received her education in Dubuque, Iowa.

Leona was united in marriage with Earl Streif on September 30, 1942 at La Motte, Iowa. Sixteen children were born to this union. Together they farmed in Dubuque County before moving to a farm at West Union, Iowa.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Mary Eileen Trewin of Fredericksburg, Duane (Mary) Streif of Elgin, Jack (Bonnie) Streif of Springville, Mike (Linda) Streif of West Union, Paul Streif of Hudson, Florida, Dale (Lynn) Streif of West Union, Joyce (Robert) McFarlane of Randalia, Kathy (Bryan) Beane of Ordasoa, Missouri, Gary (Susan) Streif of West Union; sons-in-law, Jim Kamaus of West Union and Harold Peterson of Urbana; 32 grandchildren; 45 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Josephine Fah; husband, Earl Streif; two sons, Tom and Lawrence Streif; five daughters, Helen Streif, Nancy Streif, Grace Kamaus, Diane Lueder and Barb Peterson; sister, Mary Kilcoyne; granddaughter, Melissa McFarlane; great-granddaughter, Hilary Streif; son-in-law, Tom Trewin; and daughter-in-law, Sonja Streif.

Visitation will be Sunday, June 2, 2019 from 2-7 pm with a 2:00 pm Catholic Daughters Rosary at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Monday.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Monday, June 3, 2019 at Holy Name Catholic Church, West Union, Iowa with Rev. Daniel Knipper as the Celebrant.

Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
