James Charles Volk, 83, of Ferryville, Wisconsin was called home to our Lord on Monday, July 8, 2019 at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, Iowa, after a courageous fight with lung cancer. He was born December 1, 1935 to John and Julia (Mullowney) Volk in Mauston, Wisconsin. Jim graduated high school from West Bend, Wisconsin. He joined and proudly served in the United States Navy.
Jim was united in marriage to Karen Sadowski on December 29, 1980 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was a self-made man that owned a variety of businesses throughout the years, including Beach Builders, Inc., Club Shi-la-lee tavern in Racine, WI and a tavern in St. Anthony, WI, the Corral. Jim and Karen moved to Ferryville, WI in 1979, where they owned and operated the Grandview Motel plus Cabin for fourteen years before retiring in the home they built overlooking the Mississippi River. Jim also served as Mayor of Ferryville for eight years. He loved the river for its beauty, fishing and sunsets. Jim was an avid walleye fisherman. He was a hard working, talented man who loved his wife, their doggy Molly and his blended family.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Karen Volk, children: (mother, Kate Gullickson/Volk) Donald (Sandra) Volk of Allenton, WI, Tammy Volk (Robert Wallace) of Lochbuie, CO, Patricia (Chandler) Copps of Breckenridge, CO, Mary Volk (William Snelling) of Leawood, Kansas, Bill (Becky) Volk of Viroqua, WI, Stepchildren: Mark (Tonya) Sadowski of Hartord, WI, Jef (Michele) Sadowski of Brookfeld, WI, Sandra (Randy) Hotenroth of Hartord, WI, Steven Sadowski of Harmony, MN ; grandchildren: Scot Volk, Joseph (April) Volk, Maxwell Volk, Michael Sadowski, Kaylee Trot, Jonathan Sadowski, Jase Hotenroth, Cody Hotenroth, Kali Ann Hotenroth, Sophia Sadowski; great-grandchildren, Cullen and Ahnika Volk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Julia Volk; and a brother, Donald Volk.
A Celebraton of Life will be held at a later date.
