James Leo Strub, 89, of Lansing, IA, died Thursday, January 2, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System, La Crosse, WI. He was born June 29, 1930 to Leo and Catherine (Corrigan) Strub in rural Lansing. He attended rural country school.
James was united in marriage with Juanita Jack in June of 1949 at the parishioner’s house Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lansing, IA. Six children were born to this union. They later divorced. In 1991 he married Viola Manning, and she passed away in 2013. James was a farmer at heart all of his life, enjoying time visiting and playing cards with friends and family.
James is survived by his close friend, Helen Ludeking; his five children, Lee (Sue Houlihan) Strub, son-in-law, Curt Duwe, Dennis (Mary) Strub, Noeline (Ken) Samudio, Colin Strub, and Aaron Strub; five grandchildren, Mike (Melanie) Duwe, Brian (Samantha) Duwe, Jason Samudio, Allison (Ryan) Stroschein, Austin Strub; eight great-grandchildren, Jessica (Andy) Kerr, Konnor, Avery, and Jenna Duwe; Ryann and Rainer Duwe, Harper and Wyatt Stroschein; and two sisters, Theresa Edwards and Leonette Whalen.
James was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; his daughter, Patricia Duwe in 2017; his parents; twin brother, John Strub; sisters, Mary Pounds in 2016, and sister, Delores Dammon in 2019.
Graveside Service will be at 11:30 a.m. on January 12, 2020 at Gethsemane Cemetery in Lansing, IA with Rev. John Moser as the Officiant.
Celebration of Life will be from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, January 12, 2020 at Shep’s Riverside Bar and Grill, 10 South Front Street, Lansing.
