Richard Connell, 73, of McGregor, Iowa died Sunday, September 6, 2020 at his home. Richard T. Connell was born March 11, 1947 to Gerald (Dutch) Connell and Avis Breitsprecher Connell of Marquette. He was a graduate of MarMac High School and the University of Iowa with a B.A. in Journalism. Upon graduation he enlisted in the Army and served with the 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning) in Vietnam. Upon his return he went to work as a reporter for KOEL, Oelwein; as a news director at KRNA, Iowa City. From there he became an anchor/reporter at KIMT-TV Mason City, KCCO-TV Alexandria, MN and KDLT-TV Souix Falls, SD. In the early ‘90’s he returned to McGregor to take care of family affairs.
Richard is survived by one sister, Nancy Haskin (Dale) of Banks, OR; a niece, Jane Manderino (Brian) of Sammamish, WA and a nephew, Charles Haskin (Carrie) of Maple Park, IL.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a Graveside Service with Military Rites held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor, Iowa
