Doris Rademaker, West Union, Iowa, January 19, 2020

Doris Rademaker, 93, of West Union, Iowa died Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Maple Crest Manor in Fayette, Iowa. Doris Jean Rademaker was born on May 20, 1926 in Oelwein, Iowa.  She was the daughter of Earl and Norma Butler, both long-time residents of Oelwein. Doris attended school in Oelwein and graduated from Oelwein High School.

In 1949, while working at the Oelwein Daily Register, she met Adrian “Abe” Rademaker at a dance and they were married on November 26, 1950. Abe and Doris were life-long companions and celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2000. Although Abe passed away in 2001, their love has endured.

Abe and Doris resided in Maynard until 1956 with the first two of their four children, daughter, Becky born January 3, 1952 and son, Doug, born April 24, 1954.

Abe and Doris moved their young family to Renwick, Iowa for a banking career opportunity. While in Renwick, Abe and Doris had two more daughters, Lisa born on August 17, 1961 and Kris born on November 18, 1963.

In June of 1966, Abe, Doris and the four children moved to West Union for another banking career opportunity where Abe oversaw the consolidation and the new charter of the Farmers Savings Bank.

Besides being a busy mother, Doris was active in community service, school booster club and Eastern Star. Doris actively supported her children in all sports and seldom missed a football game, basketball game, track meet or cross-country event. She loved to follow the Chicago Cubs and was an avid photographer and gardener.

Abe retired from banking in 1985 and he and Doris spent time together traveling, motorcycling, visiting children and spoiling grandchildren.

Doris passed into the hands of the Lord on January 19, 2020.  In her passing she leaves her four children, Becky Moore who is married to Jeff Moore of Fayette, Doug Rademaker who is married to Barbara Rademaker of Fort Worth, Texas, Lisa Heller who is married to Randy Heller of Garnavillo, and Kris Rademaker Criner and her fiancé, Larry Larson, of Ankeny.

Doris leaves nine grandchildren: Jeffrey Rademaker who is married to Jessica Rademaker of Fort Worth, Texas; Nathan Rademaker who is married to Jenna Rademaker of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Ryne Peterson who is married to Alicia Peterson of Ankeny; Kristen Schrandt who is married to Jon Schrandt of West Union; Joshua PeterSmith who is married to Tony PeterSmith of Ankeny; Danielle Peterson of West Union and Nicole, Katelyn and Tyler Criner of Ankeny. A graveside Family Service for Doris will be held at a later date,  where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband, Abe.
