Burnell Sander, Postville, Iowa, May 26, 2020

Burnell Gilbert Elmer Sander, 84, of Postville, Iowa died Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Veteran’s Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa.  Burnell was born November 7, 1935 to Eldo and Aileen Sander on the family farm east of Postville, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, Iowa. Burnell attended South Grove Country School thru the fifth grade, he then attended Postville Community School from the sixth grade until graduation in 1954. In the summer of 1954, Burnell enlisted in the United States Army. He spent 18 months overseas in Korea and Japan. Burnell returned home in 1956 and helped his dad on the farm and did some truck driving.

Burnell was united in marriage with Gloria Muchow in 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was then employed locally in the heating and plumbing business. Burnell started his own business dealing in Amana furnaces and air conditioning in 1986 until his retirement. He was a member of American Legion. Burnell enjoyed watching sports on TV, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Cyclones football games and the Chicago Cubs.

Surviving Burnell are his wife, Gloria Sander of Postville, Iowa; one daughter, Merri Chris Meyer of Belton, Missouri; granddaughter, Stacey (Johnny) Davis of Trimble, Missouri; grandson, Mitchell Meyer of Kansas City, Kansas; great-grandson, Bradyn Largent of Raymore, Missouri; three sisters, Murtis (Raymond) Friederich of Postville, Iowa, Marjorie Schrader of Monona, Iowa and Yvonne Groth of Ridgeway, Iowa; one brother, Daryl (Norma) Sander of Postville, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

Burnell was preceded in death by his parents, Eldo and Aileen Sander.

A Graveside Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Postville Cemetery in Postville, Iowa with Pastor Lynn Noel as the officiant.
