Dwight Wayne Rodas, Littleport, Iowa, September 13, 2020

Dwight Wayne Rodas, 73, of Edgewood, Iowa died Sunday, September 13, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center, Elkader, Iowa. He was born July 19, 1947, to Elmer and Lyla (Ruroden) Rodas in Littleport, Iowa. Dwight graduated from Central Community High School, Elkader. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1968 as a Vietnam Veteran.

Dwight was united in marriage with Janis Bente on April 14, 1973, at Peace Church, Elkader. Two children were born to this union, Danielle and Eric. Dwight was a farmer and a carpenter. He was an original, never a dull moment. Many of his stories started with, “Did you hear what Dwight did…” Those that didn’t fear him, respected him. Dwight was known to cook anytime if you were hungry day/night. Birthday cakes were his specialty. Nobody was safe from getting picked on. He enjoyed coon hunting, deer hunting, fishing, shooting pool at Gene’s Place, playing cards at the Gene’s Place “office” with the gang and taking many trips, gambling at the casino. Dwight loved his grandchildren and telling them stories and watching them in any event.

Dwight is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Janis Rodas of Edgewood; his children, Danielle (Michael) Pape of Edgewood and Eric (Amber) Rodas of Dubuque; grandchildren, Connor (Marissa) Rodas of Edgewood, Emma Pape of Edgewood, Elise Pape of Edgewood, Cole Richardson of Chicago, Elizabeth Rodas of Dubuque, Adalyn Klein of Dubuque and Wyatt Rodas of Dubuque; one great-grandchild on the way; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sandra Berger of Volga, Linda (Gregg) Frieden of Elkader, Donna (Ron) Moore of Glen Haven, Wisconsin, Jeff (Lisa) Bente of Strawberry Point and many nieces and nephews.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Lyla Rodas; his brother, Loren Rodas; mother and father-in-law, Kathleen and Lloyd Bente and brothers and sister-in-law, Ed DeShaw, James Berger and Carol Koppes.

Visitation: Friday, September 18, 2020, 4 to 8 PM at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Elkader

Private Funeral: Saturday, September 19th at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Elkader.

Public Graveside Service with Military Honors: Saturday, September 19, 11:00 AM. at Union Cemetery, Littleport
