Florence Marie Amelia Bente, 95, of Postville, Iowa died on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan in Postville, Iowa. Florence Amelia Marie, daughter of Albert and Frieda (Funk) Doeppke was born on July 23, 1921 on the family farm near Elkader, Iowa in Read Township. She was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center, Iowa. Florence received her education in the country school near Clayton Center, where she graduated from the eighth grade.
Florence was united in marriage with Glenn Frederick Bente on December 6, 1941 by Rev. Dorris Flesner at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa. To this union their son, Glen Richard Bente was born on the Fred Bente farm. In 1949, Glenn and Florence moved to Wagner Township where they purchased a twenty acre farm and rented the Albert Doeppke farm. In 1950 they moved to Grand Meadow Township near Gunder. Together they farmed and milked cows for twenty-seven years. On February 2, 1977 they moved to their home in Postville, Iowa
Florence belonged to the local Women’s Neighborhood, Home Garden Club and was a member of the St. Paul Church in Postville, Iowa. Florence and Glenn F. loved listening and dancing to polka and big band music. They enjoyed working at Dreamland Ballroom in Postville for twenty-one years. She loved spending time with family and friends and taking pictures. She liked to crochet pillowcases and do scrapbooking. She also worked at the Turkey Plant for five years.
Florence is survives by her daughter-in-law, Rita Bente of Postville; granddaughter, Annette (Chad) Davis of Luana; grandson, Richard (Heather) Bente of Postville; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Bente, Kelsi Davis and Myah Davis; sister-in-law, Kate Bente of Elkader, Iowa; and nurmerous nieces and nephews.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn F. on May 4, 1995; son, Glen R. on December 5, 1994; grandson, Greg Morris Bente on May 1, 1977; brother and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Eunice Doeppke, Harry and Marie Mueller and Lloyd Bente; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and John Bossard and Ellen and Clarence Zurcher.
A graveside service will be held at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa at a later date.
