Cheryl Christen, 69, of Elgin, Iowa died Sunday, June 11, 2017 at University of Iowa Hospitals. Cheryl Lynn was born September 5, 1947 to Wayne and Vinah “Jackie” (Nelson) Shipton in Postville, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at West Clermont Church, Clermont, Iowa. Cheryl graduated from Valley High School in 1965.
Cheryl was united in marriage with Louis Christen on September 26, 1987 at Illyria Community Church, Elgin, Iowa. She was a member of Illyria Community Church and was active in the church women’s group. Cheryl started working at Elgin State Bank in 1965 and was employed there for forty-six years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and hand-work. She loved camping and boating on the Mississippi with the Shipton family. As Cheryl wished, she was able to be an eye donor.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Louis Christen of Elgin, Iowa; and one brother, John (Marilyn) Shipton of Clermont, Iowa.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne in 1986 and Jackie in 2012.
Visitation will be 5-7 pm on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Illyria Community Church in Elgin, Iowa with a one hour visitation before services at the church on Wednesday.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at Illyria Community Church, Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Pam Reinig as the Officiant.
Burial will follow at Illyria Cemetery, Elgin, Iowa.
