LaVern Joseph “Mac” Kuehl, 95, Elkport, Iowa died Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the Regional Medical Center, Manchester, Iowa. Mac was born on October 7, 1921, rural Elkport, Iowa to John and Clara (Horstman) Kuehl Sr. He graduated from Elkport High School with the class of 1938.
Mac was united in marriage to Cora Mae Stocks on December 20, 1944, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport, Iowa. Two children were born to this union. Mac farmed for many years until his retirement at which time he did carpentry work.
He was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elkport, Iowa and later Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, Iowa. He was active in the church choir and loved to sing. He enjoyed spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his two children, Judith Ann Koth, Elkport and Gary LaVern (Nancy) Kuehl, Elkader; four grandchildren, Brian (Christina) Koth, Elkport, Tim (Dana) Kuehl, North Liberty, Paul (Beth) Kuehl, Hudson, Rachel (Darrell) Jaster, Elkport; eleven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Connor, Matthew and Brandon Koth, Callie, Brady and Saari Kuehl, Luke and Ayden Kuehl, McKenna and Collin Jaster; two step-great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jared Melcher; one sister-in-law, Francis Kuehl, Cedar Falls and several nieces and nephews.
Mac was preceded in death by his parents, John and Clara Kuehl Sr.; his wife, Cora Mae Kuehl, on March 20, 2010; son-in-law, Keith Koth, on December 29, 2004 and his siblings, Louis, John Jr., Elmer, Bill, Dorothy, Marvin, Raymond and Ralph.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2017, from 4-7 pm at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader, Iowa. Visitation will also be held one hour before services at the church on Monday.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, at 10:30 am at Hope Lutheran Church, Littleport, Iowa. The Rev. Margaret Yackel-Juleen will officiate.
Burial will follow in Mt. Harmony Cemetery, Elkport, Iowa.
