Deanna Auer, Waukon, Iowa formerly of Postville and Ossian, Iowa, July 4, 2017

Deanna Lynn Auer, 64, of Waukon, Iowa formerly of Postville and Ossian, Iowa died Tuesday, July 4, 2017 at Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, Iowa. Deanna was born on September 4, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Ralph and Ruth (Hayes) Auer. She graduated from Postville High School with the class of 1971. Following high school, Deanna graduated from NEICC with her LPN Nursing Degree and later also graduated from NEICC with her RN Advanced Nursing Degree.

Deanna worked as a nurse for many years at several locations in the area. She was a dedicated and caring nurse who was wonderful with her patients. Deanna was a devout catholic and it was through her faith that she found the strength to live her life with never ending love for all people. She enjoyed playing bingo, watching western movies, word puzzles and she loved long visits with friend and family. She especially loved it when her son Chad would sing to her and her face would light up with joy. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her son, Chad (Shelly) Auer, Decorah; her father, Ralph Auer, Decorah; her siblings, Linda Holthaus, Castalia and Terry Auer, Ossian; two nephews, Shawn Holthaus, Castalia and Ryan (Lori) Holthaus, Mason City along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Deanna was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Auer; brother-in-law, Cleo Holthaus; paternal grandparents, Edward and Josephine Auer and her maternal grandparents, Pat and Marjorie Hayes.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Monday, July 10, 2017 at St. Bridget Catholic Church, Postville, Iowa with a visitation one hour before Mass at the church on Monday. Rev. Nils de Jesus Hernandez will be the Celebrant.

Inurnment will be at a later date at Postville Cemetery, Postville, Iowa.
