James Conway, 76, of Harpers Ferry, Iowa died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at his home. He was born March 3, 1941 at home near Harpers Ferry, Iowa. James was the son of Hugh and Alice Conway. He graduated from St. George High School in Lansing in 1959. In that same year he entered the US Army and served until 1962.
On November 4, 1967 he was united in marriage with Sonja Fredrickson at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wexford, Iowa. Jim worked construction for Brennan’s in Lansing for thirty-eight years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, walking in the woods and taking his dogs for a ride.
James is survived by two sons, Kevin (Milissa) of Lansing and Jody (Kristen) of Caledonia, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Hailey, Kyle, Ryan, and Austin Conway; brothers, Hugh of McAllen, Texas, Dan of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Mike of Waukon, Iowa, John of Harpers Ferry, Ray of Polk City, Iowa; three sisters, Ellen Zwirlein of Monona, Iowa, Mary O’Neill of Harpers Ferry, Iowa and Rose Ripperger of Lacona, Iowa.
James was preceded in death by his parents; one son during childbirth, Jamie; his wife Sonja in 2011 and three brothers, Joe, Leo and Pat.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 pm with a 3:30 pm Rosary and a 6:30 pm Scripture Service on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Lansing, Iowa. There will also be a one hour visitation before Mass at the church on Sunday.
Mass of Burial will be at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Wexford, Iowa with Rev. John Moser as the Celebrant.
Burial with Military Rites will follow at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery, Wexford, Iowa.
