Roger Hans Amundson, 94, of Clermont, Iowa, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026.

Roger was born August 3, 1931, to Martin and Mabel (Helgerson) Amundson. He attended country school and graduated from Clermont High School in 1949. After serving in the military in Germany, he returned to northeast Iowa, where farming became his life’s work. In 1969, he purchased the family farm he had previously rented and continued farming there for many years.

On October 22, 1955, Roger married Lois Irene Medberry. Together they shared more than seventy years of marriage and raised four children: Susan (Larry) Armstrong, Sally (John) Light, Ardel (Ron) McCartney, and John Amundson. They were blessed with ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Roger’s Christian faith was central to his life. A lifelong member of East Clermont Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, he remained active in the congregation throughout the years. In his early thirties, he trained through the Bethel Bible Series and later taught the course, an experience that inspired a lifelong commitment to Christian stewardship.

Roger believed faith was meant to be shared and rarely missed a chance to talk about God’s love and grace. In his later years, Roger spoke openly about death and thoughtfully prepared his family for it. He requested a Christ-centered funeral, believing the focus should be on his Savior, Jesus Christ, rather than himself.

A talented woodworker, Roger spent decades crafting clocks, furniture, bentwood boxes, crosses, and even cremation urns for family and friends. He took pride in doing things well, finding the greatest satisfaction in creating things that are useful, beautiful, and well-built.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and one great-grandson. He is survived by his wife, Lois; his four children; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and many extended family members, neighbors, and friends.

Those who knew Roger will remember him as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, skillful teacher, gifted craftsman, diligent farmer, and lifelong servant of God. He enjoyed sharing what he had learned, whether about farming, woodworking, Scripture, or life itself. For many years, a bumper sticker on his pickup captured a belief that guided his life: “The farmer plants the seed, but God gives the growth.”
