Marvin Eugene Larson, 73 of West Union Iowa passed away Wednesday, July 29, 2026 surrounded by his family at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in West Union, Iowa. Marvin was born October 20, 1952 to Bernell and Margaret (Kleppe) Larson in Postville, Iowa. Marvin graduated from North High in West Union, Iowa.
On July 22, 1978 Marvin was united in marriage to the love of his life, Judy Herman, at the Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa. Judy and Marvin were inseparable for their 48 years of marriage. Three children, Amber, Andy and Amy were born to this union.
Marvin worked many places over the years including; Traeger’s Jack & Jill’s, Bemiss Distributing, Modcomp Homes, Iowa Ham, and Atwood/Dura. He also loved mowing lawns and did for a number of years for people all around West Union.
Marvin enjoyed playing slow pitch softball for the “Friendly” with friends. He also bowled in several different leagues. He was an avid fisherman. He fished with many great friends, his brothers (“The 3 Fishermen”) and his son, Andy. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his wife, Judy.
Surviving Marvin are his wife, Judy. Children: Amber (Matt) Chicken of Clermont, Iowa, and Andy (Renee) Larson of West Union Iowa; his four grandchildren: Abby Chicken, Alex Larson, Austin Larson and Anna Chicken; his sister, Marcia (Greg) Kilcher of West Union, Iowa; brother-in-law, Dave (Samantha) Herman of Minnesota. Sisters-in law: Darlene Larson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Becky Pritchard of North Carolina; Suzy Herman of Clermont, Iowa; and Jenny Herman of Hawkeye, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Marvin in death was daughter, Amy Larson on August 31, 2007; his brothers: Bob Larson, Wayne Larson and Don Larson; brother-in-law: Walter “Wally” Herman; his parents: Burnell & Margaret Larson; and his in-laws; Sylvan and Gail Herman.
A Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 2, 2026 at Burnham-Wood-Grau Funeral Home in West Union, Iowa. There will also be a one-hour visitation before services at the church on Monday.
Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Monday, August 3, 2026 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, Iowa with Rev. Mike Erickson as the officiant.
Interment will follow at West Union Cemetery, West Union, Iowa.
