Joyce McClintock, 78, died suddenly at her home in Prairie du Chien, WI, on Saturday, February 15, 2020. Joyce Marie McClintock was born November 23, 1941, in Arlington, Iowa, to Thomas and Catherine Berger Taylor. Joyce spent most of her childhood years in and around Volga, Iowa, until her family moved to Blooming Prairie, MN for a better opportunity. She graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1959.
She married Charles Bruce McClintock on November 26, 1960, and moved to Ohio. Their union produced four children and she was a stay-at-home mom. She always made time to play games with her kids. After divorcing in 1973, she moved her family back to Volga in 1974. She bought a home and raised her family. She worked at Pedretti’s Bakery in Elkader for many years, Everitt and Klingman, and the Volga City Opera House. She also served as city clerk under Mayor Shirley Grant. The flood of 1999 took her home as well as her place of employment.
Joyce was a long-time member of the Volga United Methodist Church and was active in UMW. She was always the first to donate money or bake something. She was also involved in the ladies auxillary in Volga.
Joyce enjoyed a variety of activities. In 2007, she attended a Chicago Cubs baseball game with her daughter Patty and was hooked! She became a “die-hard” from then on, keeping stats her own way in her notebooks. She watched her Cubbies win the World Series in 2016. She was an avid reader and would stay up to all hours of the night reading her Harlequin Romances and her “trashy” romance novels. She loved her grandchildren; teaching them to play cards and baking cookies with them. She enjoyed reading the newspaper every day and doing the puzzles. Whenever there was a gathering, the cards would come out from her purse and some kind of game would begin. Lately she had so much fun cutting plastic bags for Diane to make plarn and feeding Radar (Debbie’s dog) too many treats!
In 2016, when her daughter Debbie moved to Wisconsin, Joyce moved with her.
She is survived by her four children: Michael (Diane), Patricia (Rob Mackay), Vicki Flatjord (Randy) and Deborah Meyer (Laverne Weber); six grandchildren: Adriane McClintock, Jeremey DeShaw, Rachel Baratklimesh (Alston), Ryan McClintock (Amy Jo Connolly), Joy Meyer (fiancé Mason Zimmer), and Bethany Kreiter (Luke); and six great-grandchildren: Carson McClintock, Ashton Ohm, Chelsea DeShaw, Konnor, Kamryn, and Ayden Baratklimesh; two brothers, Jackie (Georgia) and Howard, aka Tommy (friend Kathie Kirkpatrick), and sister-in-law Jan Moore, nieces, nephews, and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerald, niece Julie Taylor, and sister-in-law Mary Taylor.
