Mary Ann (Kalke) Fuelling, 92 of Monona, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2026 at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. She was born July 23, 1933 to Harley and Miranda (Hagensick) Kalke in Elkader, Iowa. Mary Ann was baptized on September 10, 1933 and confirmed on March 30, 1947, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center, Iowa. She attended the Denmark country school through the 8th grade in Elkader, Iowa and graduated with the Class of 1951 from Elkader High School.
On January 14, 1952 Mary Ann was united in marriage with Allison Lee Fuelling at Zion Lutheran Church in Clayton Center. Five children were born to this union. Mary Ann was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She made a wedding quilt for all fifteen of her grandchildren as well as her five children, most of which were hand quilted by her. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, and there were always chocolate chunk cookies in a Schwan’s ice cream pail waiting for the grand-kids to arrive. According to some of the grand-kids nobody could make french toast, brownies and those cookies like their Grandma Fuelling. Oh, and can’t forget the homemade cornstarch pudding, ice cream and chocolate sauce to go with it. She loved working at the school in the lunchroom, as many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as all the other kids that called her grandma attended school in Monona, so she got to see them every day.
Mary Ann collected Santas and had over 600+ in her growing collection. Christmas was her favorite holiday, and she loved family gatherings. She enjoyed going on bus trips with her friend Betty Brownson and the many friends they meet on those trips. Since moving to Monona she looked forward to her Wednesday afternoon 500 card club. Mary Ann was a member of the Gooding Better Neighbors Club since 1952, a member of St. Paul Lutheran WELCA, Merry Mixers, and President and Secretary/Treasurer for many years for the St. John Gooding Cemetery Association.
